On Thursday, December 15th, the Congressional LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus released its Inaugural Report on the Condition of LGBTQ in the United States. The report covers a range of topics: education, healthcare, housing, and the economy. The information in this publication demonstrates that wide disparities continue to exist between LGBTQ+ people and their non-LGBTQ+ counterparts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus consists of 175 members, the largest in the 117th Congress. The report begins stating its intended purpose to “benchmark” the progress toward LGBTQ+ equality in a message from the chair of the caucus, Representative David Cicilline. Within this message he states the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nThis report is meant to establish a benchmark of where we are in the fight for true lived equality for LGBTQ+ people\u2014a benchmark by which we can measure our progress in the years to come. The report includes a confluence of surveys and statistics on each category. The LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus’s publication also advocates for the Equality Act, the Respect for Marriage Act, and other reforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
