Demonstration sponsored by Gay Activist Alliance, Lincoln Road Mall, Miami Beach, Florida, June 5, 1972
The Gay Activist Alliance (GAA) is a homosexual organization with headquarters in New York City, which has as its purpose the promotion of "gay rights." A Miami chapter of GAA was formed in February 1972.
On May 31, 1972, a confidential source who has furnished reliable information in the past advised that a small demonstration of the GAA would be held at Lincoln Road Mall, Miami Beach, at noon on June 5, 1972.
On June 5, 1972, the same source who furnished prior information concerning the GAA demonstration advised that the demonstration would be held at 4 p.m., June 5, 1972.
Special agents (SAs) of the FBI were present during the proposed demonstration and observed three white males passing out literature. This literature stated that this was a silent demonstration against Miami Beach City Ordinance 2552, which reads: "clothing unbecoming to the sex." The literature stated that an attempt to secure a bona fide rapport with the Miami Beach Police Department concerning rights to demonstrate against such legislation prohibits the GAA demonstrators from adorning themselves as they choose, causing threats of arrest and intimidation.
The literature further stated that the GAA has been harrassed (sic), jailed, and fined concerning their constitutional rights in pursuit of their happiness.
The Miami Beach Police Department was aware of the demonstration.
A copy of this communication was furnished to the USSS, Miami.
