Dear Ms. Purse:
The Vice President has asked me to thank you for your message on the subject of homosexual rights. He appreciates your taking the time to share your views on this subject.
This Administration is firmly committed to full civil rights for all citizens. Our stand on this issue is a matter of public record, and we continue to be deeply troubled by violations of the human and civil rights of any American. Be assured that the Administration shares your concern and will continue to support equal federal treatment for all Americans. We should note, however, that many of the recent controversies surrounding homosexual rights have involved decisions and ordinances by local governments, thus, we suggest that your views be shared also with your local officials.
Again, many thanks for writing.
Sincerely,
James W. Dyke, Jr.
Special Assistant to the Vice President for Domestic Policy
