SUBJECT: Travel Orders
TO: Commander, Military Air Transport Service
Chief of Transportation
1. Under authority of the Secretary of the Army, dated 28 June 1956, Dr. Franklin E. Kameny, Astronomer, GS-9, Security Clearance NONE, Army Map Service, is directed to proceed on or about 8 October 1957 from San Francisco, California (TDY Station) to Hawaii and Oahu, T.H., on temporary duty for a period of approximately twenty-eight (28) days, exclusive of travel time, for the purpose of inspecting occultation field survey parties. Upon completion of mission, Dr. Kameny will return to San Francisco, California (TDY Station). Variation in itinerary authorized. Dr. Kameny should report to the Embarkation Officer, MATS Terminal, Travis AFB, Fairfield, California not later than 0630 hours on 8 October 1957 for movement by MATS under AMD: US-39-2D-3224 RA 10. Thirty-five (35) pounds excess baggage is authorized to accompany employee.
2. Travel by rail, bus, ship, and air is authorized within the U.S. (Para 3b (2) AR 55-120, as amended). Travel beyond CONUS is directed by military aircraft; travel by commercial aircraft, military or commercial surface transportation is authorized only in the event military aircraft is not available. Expenses incident to this travel are chargeable to: TDN 2182020 08-7844 P2500-02 S49-018 (Cost Account No. 61175-004).
3. While traveling and absent from permanent duty station, in lieu of subsistence, maximum per diem rates are authorized in accordance with CPR T3.4-4.
4. Dr. Kameny is designated ACTING TRANSPORTATION OFFICER for the purpose of complying with these orders.
5. Dr. Kameny is authorized to carry a camera, film and equipment to take such photographs as may be necessary for the accomplishment of mission, subject to such restrictions as may be imposed by the Command.
6. Correspondents will be advised to withhold personal mail until notified of an overseas APO mailing address.
7. General Instructions Related to Travel A Thru F (SEE OTHER SIDE) are applicable to this travel.
