The Institute for Sex Research (Institut für Sexualwissenschaft) was founded in 1919 by Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld (1868-1935) in Germany. It was significant in its progressive attitudes towards queer and transgender communities. It was plundered and closed in 1933 under the Nazi government as it was deemed "Jewish, social-democratic, and immoral".
