Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld (May 14th 1868 to May 14th 1935) was a researcher on sex, venereal disease, sexuality, and gender.
Institute for Sex Research (1919-1933)
Hirschfeld's founding and leadership in Germany with the Institute for Sex Research (Institut für Sexualwissenschaft) was its progressive attitudes towards queer and transgender communities. It was plundered and closed under the Nazi government as it was deemed "Jewish, social-democratic, and immoral".
