58 Dropped as Homosexuals.
The State Department rid itself of 54 homosexuals last year and four more during the first two months of 1951, the subcommittee was informed.
This brought to 148 the total number of homosexuals separated from the department since January 1, 1947, Deputy Undersecretary of State Carlisle H. Humelsine testified.
He reported that one other unidentified security risk was separated from the department last year, bringing to 14 the total of such cases since the first of 1947.
Mr. Humelsine said two additional [employees] were under suspension and investigation as security risks, plus 11 as homosexuals, at the time he was testifying, March 2.
Representative Preston, Democrat, of Georgia, brought out in questioning of Mr. Humelsine that two of the homosexuals forced to resign from he department were women.
The appropriation hearing testimony also brought out that 45 of the 54 separations for homosexuality last year resulting from the State Department'sown security operations and nine followed police arrests.
