Emma Goldman (1869-1940) was a prominent anarchist, feminist, and early supporter for gay rights in the United States.


1915 Lectures on Homosexuality

In 1915 Emma Goldman and other anarchists traveled across the United States holding lectures on several topics, including: monogamy, birth control, labor issues, and early gay rights. From Edward Carpenter's The Intermediate Sex (1908), Emma Goldman shared perspectives supporting LGBTQIA+ rights in the early 20th century. According to Mother Earth, a publication she helped produce, it was well received and attended by even physicians at the time. The tour went to Chicago, Portland, San Francisco, Seattle, and several others.
