Navy Skipper Resigns, 24 Ousted in Morals Case

By the Associated Press

BOSTON, Aug. 30.-- The Navy said today that one officer and 24 enlisted men under investigation at the Newport, R.I. Naval Base for alleged homosexuality are being separated from the service.

Lt. Comdr. Bernard S. Solomon, first Naval District public information officer, said the officer has been relieved of command and permitted to submit his resignation. He was described as the commanding officer of a ship but not otherwise identified.

The enlisted men, Comdr. Solomon said, would be discharged by administrative order under conditions "other than honorable."

The Navy said no charges were placed against any of the men.
