1920s

  • (1927) New York bans Mae West's play The Drag as offensive for strong "homosexual" themes. Some of the cast is arrested.


1950s

  • An article in the Minneapolis Spokesman describes gay communities "moved in TEN THOUSAND STRONG" to Harlem (February 18, 1955).
