- March 3rd
- 99 years ago, papers reported on the opening of a birth control clinic with Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld’s Institute for Sex Research. Birth Control Clinic Opens In Germany, Daily Worker (Article, 1924).
- March 7th
- 69 years ago, The federal government releases a breakdown on some of the firings which occurred during the Lavender Scare. From this report around 200 of just over 2000 people were fired for “perversion” which included being LGBTQ. Numbers Game, Evening Star (Article, March 1954).
It is also important to recognize a couple major days.
Bisexual Health Month reminds us to think of the physical and emotional well-being of the bi and pan community, who can often feel othered in both cishet and queer spaces.
International Women’s Day on March 7th is especially important to acknowledge and celebrate as we recall leading figures and remind ourselves that the fights for women’s rights and women’s equality is still just as important today.
